Values Cards for Kids & Teens

Values Cards for Kids & Teens

What’s included

38 illustrated Values Cards, each designed to make the sometimes abstract idea of “what matters to me?” easier for children and young people to explore.

Each card includes:

  • One clearly named value
  • A short, young-person-friendly description of what that value might mean in everyday life
  • A visual illustration to support understanding and engagement
  • A consistent card format that makes them easy to sort, compare and discuss

The deck includes a broad range of values, from friendship, family, belonging and connection to creativity, authenticity, independence, self-expression, adventure, fairness, flexibility, self-compassion and growth.

Why use values cards?

Values can be difficult to identify through conversation alone. Asking a child “What matters to you?” can be a surprisingly big and abstract question.

Having something tangible in front of them changes the task.

Children can look through the cards, notice what stands out, sort possibilities, reject what doesn't fit and choose what feels genuinely important to them. There is no expectation that particular values are the “right” ones.

This can open up richer conversations about:

  • Who am I?
  • What kind of person do I want to be?
  • What matters to me in friendships and relationships?
  • What do I want more of in my life?
  • What might guide me when things feel difficult?
  • What could this value look like in my everyday actions?

Flexible enough to use in different ways

Use the cards for a simple values sort, narrow them down to a young person’s Top 5, explore values that feel important in different parts of life, or choose one value to translate into a small action or goal.

They can also provide a useful starting point for conversations about identity, motivation, decision-making, relationships, goals and meaningful action.

Designed for use in therapy, counselling, school wellbeing and at home.
