ADHD

ADHD is often associated with being "busy" or "easily distracted", but we understand the various nuances and presentations of ADHD at a brain- based neurological level.

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental difference that influences how the brain regulates attention, motivation, emotions and executive functioning. It can affect how a child starts tasks, shifts attention, manages emotions, organises themselves, remembers instructions and controls impulses.
These differences are not a reflection of intelligence, effort or parenting.

Children with ADHD are often imaginative, energetic, curious and creative thinkers. Many have incredible problem-solving skills, a strong sense of humour and the ability to think outside the box. Alongside these strengths, they may also find it harder to manage the everyday expectations of school and family life.

An assessment helps to understand how their brain engages, why certain tasks feel more effortful, and how we can better support them.

Our approach

Looking beyond behaviours to understand your child.

Behaviour is communication.

Rather than focusing only on what a child is doing, we explore why certain situations feel difficult. We look at attention, emotional regulation, executive functioning, sensory experiences, learning, relationships and the environments your child moves through each day.

Our assessments recognise both the strengths and challenges associated with ADHD, allowing recommendations to be practical, individualised and meaningful.

The Assessment Process.

1. Initial consultation with Parent/ Carer
We begin by getting to know your child and your family.
We'll talk about your concerns, your child's development, strengths, interests, sensory experiences, friendships, learning and everyday life.

2. Gathering information
ADHD cannot be understood from one appointment alone. We gather information from several perspectives, which include:

  • developmental history

  • parent questionnaires

  • teacher questionnaires

  • school reports

  • previous assessments (OT, Speech, Cognitive)

  • observations across different settings where appropriate

3. Clinical assessment
Assessment is tailored to your child's age, presentation and needs.
Rather than expecting children to perform in unfamiliar situations, we invite your child to have a session with our psychologist to hear about their world from their perspective; what they enjoy, what feels hard, their experience of emotions and body clues, what makes their brain light up and curious and where they feel stuck.

4. Comprehensive report
Following the assessment, you'll receive a detailed report outlining:
• your child's strengths
• areas where additional support may be helpful
• diagnostic conclusions (where appropriate)
• practical recommendations for home, school and everyday life

5. Feedback session
The assessment doesn't end with a report. We'll meet together to explain the findings in clear, meaningful language, answer your questions and discuss practical next steps that feel achievable for your family.

Comprehensive ADHD Assessment

Our comprehensive ADHD assessment includes:

✓ Initial parent consultation
✓ Child focused session

✓ Standardised questionnaires and assessment measures

✓ Liaison with school (where appropriate)

✓ Comprehensive diagnostic report

✓ A school recommendations letter (where appropriate) outlining practical, neuroaffirming supports to help educators better understand your child's needs.

✓ A personalised letter for your child or young person, written in strengths-based, age-appropriate language to help them understand their neurotype, celebrate their strengths and make sense of the way their brain works. This often becomes a valuable starting point for positive identity development and removes the pressure from parents to interpret a lengthy clinical report.

✓ 1.5 hour feedback session to discuss the findings and recommendations
